12 Bizarre American Laws That Are Still On The Books
We’ve all heard rumours and stories about laws that seem too strange or non-sensical to really be in effect today. Often times these claims can be found on websites purportedly dedicated to dumb laws, or other list compilations intended more for humour and entertainment than accuracy.
Sometimes, these are simply antiquated laws that existed at some point but indeed have long-since been taken off the books. Other times they are misinterpretations of current laws that aren’t really as crazy as they sound. But in many cases, these weird laws are made up entirely, becoming urban legends that people believe are real simply because they have heard about them so many times before.
However, that doesn’t mean that bizarre laws don’t exist at all. Today we wanted to take a look at a few examples of such laws, focusing on things like American municipal codes and state statutes that really exist, and have bizarre meanings or backstories. We’ve also included all of the links to these laws in the description below, so feel free to check up on any of these for yourself.
