2 Baffling Locked-Room Mysteries (Part 1 – Julia Wallace)

If you’re a fan of mystery or detective novels, then chances are you’re familiar with idea of so-called “locked-room mysteries.” Essentially, it’s a seemingly impossible crime, one where it’s obvious that a victim has been murdered, but there doesn’t appear appear to be any way that the perpetrator could have actually committed the crime and gotten away. As the name suggests, this is usually because crime scene is a sealed room with doors that have been locked from the inside, and there are no other clear routes of escape.

Understandably, “Locked-Room Mysteries” are a staple of crime fiction, with everyone from Edgar Allan Poe, to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to John Disckson Carr, to Agatha Christie employing the plot device in their work. The reader is generally encouraged to follow clues left throughout the story, attempting to solve the mystery before it’s revealed in a dramatic climax.

As you may have guessed by now, while these stories are normally confined to the world of fiction, occasionally a real-life example of a locked-room mystery pops up — some of which are every bit as fascinating as their literary counterparts.

Today we wanted to take a look at 2 examples of such cases, real-life locked room mysteries that baffled investigators and the public alike.
