2 Unsolved Crimes With Unsettling Police Sketches (Part 1 – Lake Bodom)
If you’re anything like us, then you’ll probably agree that there’s something inherently unsettling about police sketches. Though part of this is undoubtedly the wildly varying accuracy when it comes to facial composites and their actual resemblance to the perpetrators they’re supposed to picture, we’d argue that it’s more than just that.
If you ask us part of it is that many of these sketches have a sort of uncanny valley quality to them — that is that they resemble something that is human, but always in an imperfect way, often leaving us with a strange and feeling about them that is hard to describe. We’d also argue that context plays a major role as well — because these sketches are usually released in serious situations where police have little to go on in their investigation, we are left with a mysterious crime with this image as one of our only points of reference.
Today we wanted to take at 2 cases like this — stories where the police sketches created to help investigators solve a crime ended up taking on a life of their own. Just a heads up we’ll be dedicating an entire video to each one of these stories, so make sure to check out the description below for the link to the second case.
